About Us

Nourish 282 began in 2015 as an outreach project that provided winter outerwear, groceries and gift cards to families in need at Wilshire Park Elementary in St. Anthony, Minnesota.  In January of 2016, Nourish 282 officially received their status as a 501(c)(3) charity. It is with the help of local businesses, community members, the school community, and civic organizations working together to ensure that the basic needs of every child within School District 282 are met.

Nourish 282's largest initiative is our Food Assistance Program. We provide aid directly to families in the form of a grocery store gift card. This allows families self-choice and we firmly believe it provides dignity as well. We understand that families know what is most needed for their children. Historically, participating families received $20 per month, per child, with a family cap of $100 per month. In response to the COVID crisis in April of 2020, we now provide double that allotment. We understand that it is challenging to have the entire family home for every meal of every day.  The grocery store gift cards have been a huge success for the families we serve.

In addition to the monthly gift card allotment, we also provide nonperishable food bags to anyone who would benefit from one. To learn more about how to donate nonperishable food items, click here.

Our other initiatives include a Free Store for head-to-toe outerwear every October, a weekly meal program from  generous community members, Liza Atkinson of Nosh & Gather and Valerie Faure of Valerie's French Kitchen, and a Rehousing Fund to help families at risk of or experiencing homelessness. Whether providing warm outerwear, weekly meals, grocery gift cards or summer produce. Nourish 282 is ready and looking for ways to help our community.

Nourish 282 is grateful for the support of our local community who understand that when we help children, we are shaping the future.
